Accepting Where I Am Right Now Is Okay
Welcome to Day 17 of the Love Challenge. If you’re only just catching up with us today go here first to find out what you need to do to get started.
I am running behind with the challenge post today. I decided to take some time to journal. meditate: take time out for me and I pulled Virginia Satir’s book Self Esteem that sits on my bookshelf out and read this poem to myself. This powerful message was the inspiration for my book Emergings: A meditation on the emotions of change. So today I am sharing Virginia Satir’s poem and a poem I wrote many years ago that you can put in your love journal
I AM ME
In all the world, there is no one else exactly like me
Everything that comes out of me is authentically me
Because I alone chose it I own everything about me
My body, my feelings, my mouth, my voice, all my actions,
Whether they be to others or to myself – I own my fantasies,
My dreams, my hopes, my fears – I own all my triumphs and
Successes, all my failures and mistakesBecause I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me – by so doing
I can love me and be friendly with me in all my parts – I know
There are aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other
Aspects that I do not know – but as long as I am
Friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously
And hopefully look for solutions to the puzzles
And for ways to find out more about me
However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever
I think and feel at a given moment in time is authentically
Me – If later some parts of how I looked, sounded, thought
And felt turn out to be unfitting, I can discard that which is
Unfitting, keep the rest, and invent something new for that
Which I discarded – I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and doI have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be
Productive to make sense and order out of the world of
People and things outside of me – I own me, and
therefore I can engineer me – I am me andI AM OKAY
Poem by Virginia Satir
When I was writing Emergings, I wrote this verse for a client to put in the front of their love journal
Where you are at now is okay
Be with what is
Not what might be
Acknowledge the courage and the strength
that took you to this point.
When the whirlwind churns in your mind
Take out your pen and write in me
I’ll help you through the fear, the pain and anguish.
Your thoughts, your dreams
Your hopes and desires
Will be safe with me
And when you find
The light that shines from within
When love and joy and happiness emerge
I’ll be a comfort for reflection
You’ll find the courage that enabled you
to take that first step
The strength you need to take the next risk.

Hi Angela,
thanks for you support and what you write is so true and so often we are not conscious that we are sabotaging ourselves. Yes this looks like an area i am going to further share and explore- my journey

Suzie,
Self-esteem is the cornerstone of our personal power. Without it we are not effective in anything we set out to do. We will sabotage ourselves at every turn thinking that we don’t measure, aren’t good enough and don’t deserve success. I’m so glad you are writing about this important topic.
xoxo,
Angela
