Do you ever choose a color that you will focus on for the week?
My color for this a week is Lavender
Six weeks ago I started Nicole Cody’s 9 week Journal Challenge. I love Nicole’s work and thought this would be fun and it was time to start a new art style journal. One of the focus points is to allow a color to emerge for the week. This is done in a short meditation and for me each week, so far, a new color has appeared.
Here is this week’s meditation from the Blab session last Monday evening- you can see the whole session here
I would love to see some of you dropping in. You just need a twitter account. It is a cross between skype and google hangouts and very social. Using a guiding stone/crystal and a meditation I choose a color to focus on for the week. I then with a pen of that color I write in my journal about the color, how it makes me feel and all the things I can think of that are that color. I might then wear that color, eat that color food and be aware of that color during the week.
For instance this week I have been aware of more people wearing lavender, yet there are almost no lavender color clothes for sale in the shops here.
These are the colors that have been in my life over the past 6 weeks. I am sharing the images I have painted and created so far.
Week One. PINK
I love the color pink, it makes a bold statement- Samuel Larsen
Week 2 GREEN
The color of the heart chakra, of nature, growth, self-worth, of spinach, lettuce, kale, peas and beans, Green has so many shades and so many stories to tell
Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises. ~ Pedro Calderon de la Barca
Week 3 PURPLE my fave colour. The color of the Crown Chakra, a regal and spiritual. The colour of grapes, jacaranda, lavender and more.
Week 4: BLUE and this week I painted my dancing heart. Blue is the color of the throat chakra, of trust, some say business, the sea and sky and comes in so many delicious shades.
Week 5 ORANGE This painting I used for this week’s heart whisper ezine with changed words. I was focusing on my sacral chakra when I painted this.
Week 6. Lavender Another of my fave colors and the morning before I chose this color one of the farmers had bunches of lavender for sale- not one of his usual items- yes I bought a bunch plus a new bottle of lavender oil.
I wonder what my color will be for week 7?

Great post Suzie. I’m trying to exercise my creative muscle and I think choosing a color will help do the trick!
Welcome Brian, Yes it is a way of starting, Did you do the meditation?
Wow, Suzie , my first thought is that I use all colors all the time in my paintings and cannot chose just one color. And there are billions of variations to explore (way too many for one lifetime! ) so how could I do this? And then I thought I could make one small painting —-abstract is my style—-and just see where it leads if I only put the color and its complement and white on my palette. Could be interesting. I will see if I have the time to play with this. Sounds like an engaging project to me! I love what you are doing BTY 🙂 Hugs!
Wow my comment before must have gone into the ether 🙂 Looking forward to your experiment if you choose to do it. Thanks for BTY- makes my heart sing hugs back xxoo
Thanks for this fun & enlightening post. My favorite colors have always been deep emerald green (my eye color), purples of all shades, coral & fuchsia. I chose them because they look best with my skin color. Now I understand they have certain energies around them! 🙂
Hi Tae I love your color combinations and yes they all have their own energies. Magic to have emerald green eyes too. xx
Great concept. I like to eat and drink the rainbow does that count?
Could you give us a little more feedback on how you felt at the end of each week? Did burying your head in a color affect your mood for that week?
Great question Drew, Although I have been focusing on the colours more and being more aware of colors that I eat, I haven’t noticed a mood swing. Saying that I know that as Yellow is my colour this week I have painted it more and felt brighter.
Hi Suzie,
I’ve never done this! Looks like fun. I am aware that the different organs systems in Chinese medicine are associated with different colors. So yes, I think this could be very balancing. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Suzie…I like the color of the week. All the colors are great! Colors can be so inspirational.
Hi Kim, that is good. and yes color is so inspirational and can be so uplifting xx
My pleasure Sandra yes I hadn’t thought to link to Chinese medicine- will look that up, i have many cooks on color xxoo
Hi Sandra,
Yes it is fun and I have found myself this week- color is yellow wanting more yellow foods. I must refresh myself on the chinese medicine colors too xxoo
Hi Molly Love that you are going to try focusing on one colour for a week. Blue is a beautiful color to focus on it comes in so many hues . ?
What a delightful, enjoyable post, Suzie. I love your exploration of these colors. xox, Reba
Thanks Reba I appreciate your joy that comes through ?
Wow you’ve really got my ol’ brain working on this one Suzie. While I’ve never intentionally chosen a color to focus on for a period of time, there’s no question that there are periods where I find myself drawn to certain colors more than others. I am definitely going to give this more thought and I’ve bookmarked your post to come back to. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Marty love that my color exercise has you thinking and being inspired. Let ne know how it works for you ?
I use colors but not as a weekly theme. It’s a great idea, though. I might adopt it 🙂
Hi Linda, yes this has been new for me and I am liking the idea I think I will continue it beyond the 9 weeks. ?
I love this idea, Suzie. I tend to wear certain colors all the time. It’s nice to simmer this idea of a color theme for a period of time. I’ll let you know what comes to pass.

Sue
Sue I am looking forward to hearing what does come to pass. I know when I was painting fabrics and making clothes that were bright, sometimes it was nice to have a change ?
Lavender is such a relaxing color. Interesting idea to focus on one color a week. I think that’s a great idea to help all of us focus on the present and beauty in the world. Recently moved and painted my house a soothing sea salt which I love – so blue it is for this week!
Julie yes lavender does relax, think I might have a lavender oil bath tomorrow. I love the sense of your house enjoy your blue week ?
I never thought of choosing a color to focus on for the week, but I am going to try it. My favorite color is blue and this time of year the sky is at it’s most vibrant clear blue, so I have lots of opportunity to focus on it. But I will branch out and notice. Thanks for your thoughtful share and beautiful art work.
Molly, I love blue too and would love to hear what came about from you focusing on the color for the week. I appreciate your comments on my art thanks. always makes my heart sing
