be-enough

You alone are enough, you have nothing to prove to anybody- Maya Angelou

Today’s BEach Inspiration to Be Enough is something I know I have struggled with. When I allow my inner critic to move me from my heart to my head up come the feelings of

The list can go on and on…………

As I am writing this I am immediately reminded of Virginia Satir’s book Self Esteem and the wonderful poem I Am Me which I shared recently on the 21 Day Love Challenge.

When we slip into comparing ourselves to others or feel what we are doing is not enough we often slip into fear mode.

When this happens to me I know that taking myself and my journal to my happy place the beach is one way I can move back into know that I am enough.

I will often go for a walk and a swim which always for me is uplifting and shifts my mood from the FUD factor into one of faith, love and trust. I then put myself into a meditative state and ask my higher self to tell me what is going on right now or what do I really really want to know right now? I may also ask: How may I serve? My favorite question that I also use with my coaching clients that brings clarity and I often ask myself is: What don’t I like about……… Fill in the situation or feeling that you are experiencing at the time and make alist, you maybe surprised at what arises.

I them allow the words to flow onto the page. I surprise myself sometimes, well most of the time really. We do have the answers within and all we have to do is get quiet, listen and trust.

I am enough

What will do you do when you get the feeling you are not enough?

All my love
Namaste,

Suzie Cheel

  1. Suzie,
I think what you share here is an epic battle of feeling Not Good Enough or Not Enough or a mix of both. I agree this is often triggered by fear, or feelings of inadequacy. I think it’s awesome how you use your journal to bring yourself back to center, to your authenticity, so you can determine what triggered the issue and how you can restore that ENOUGH feeling.

I have chosen your post, BEach Inspirations: Be Enough, for the #JournalChat Pick of the Day on 4/23/13 for all things journaling on Twitter; a link will be posted on the social networks, on my blog and website Refresh with Dawn Herring, and in my weekly Refresh Journal: http://tinyurl.com/d6b6c9m.

#JournalChat Live is every Thursday, 5 EST/2 PST, for all things journaling on Twitter; our topic this week is Your Journaling: Golden Silence.

I appreciate your addressing the Enough Issue and bringing us back to the heart of the matter: We have the answers.

    Be refreshed,

    1. Hi Dawn and welcome
I am very honored that you have chosen this post for pick of the day for journal chat and I will come on the chat this week-
yes the being enough is something that has stopped me moving forward often. It seems to be something that many struggle with and we have to do the heart work to truly believe in us !

  2. Great post Suzie! Dealing with the pressures of upbringings and society that place us in a competitive approach to evaluate ourselves is a battle that all of us face. It is persons like you who provide others with tools to successfully overcome such pressures that make a difference of attitude toward’s oneself. You are touching the hearts of many by bringing awareness and appreciation of our uniqueness. I can relate to your ways of letting go of the negativity by doing an special activity that brings satisfaction back to our minds such as a walk feeling the ocean waves on our feet, one my most favorites. Thanks so much for the encouragement 🙂

    1. Welcome Delmy,
Your comment has my heart singing, thank you for your such encouraging comment. Funny I thought to myself – there you go not being enough again 🙂 I still have some growing to do in accepting that what i do really does touch others and is empowering..
I am delighted that you feel encouraged , yes walking on the beach with the waves lapping on our feet can transport me from – to+

  3. Lovely post Suzie! I use similar methods for “mental health breaks.” Getting outside almost always does it for me, but sometimes I escape into a book for half an hour or so. I tend to bounce back quickly, so anything that breaks a disempowering train of thought works wonders.

    1. Hi Marty,
love your twitter handle and i would love to visit Hawaii:) yes a book can transport one into another space and as you say breaking the disempowering train of thought is the secret.

  4. Yes Suzie, comparing yourself to others can be destructive, and I guess I’ve always done this to some extent (I am a woman!) but I just try to be the best I can. I find in situations of learning and uncertainty that comparing myself does bring up a fear, and in business too. But I’m on the right path, and feeling more secure in myself, accepting me for being me – and your lovely heart whispers give me a warm feeling when they hit my inbox, thank you
    Jacs 🙂

    1. Hi Jacs,
You have me laughing:) Once you are on the right path i believe you become stronger in knowing you are enough so the comparisons fall away or lesson. Yes love and acceptance are huge.
Thanks for you uplifting words on my Heart Whispers- they come from my heart and your comment makes my heart sing

  5. A definite habit especially among women. We have trained ourselves to focus on what needs to change. I believe that acknowledging what it is that we truly desire is important because sometimes change is what we want, it certainly doesn’t have to be where we keep our focus. I now like to look at others for inspiration and ideas and use that as a brainstorming place instead of as a comparative space, but it does take some practice and I admit to not always getting there easily.

    1. Hi Kate,
Ye sit is a female thing- my mother had it 🙂 Great comment I believe change empowres us to be more of who we came here to be
that is a great idea- to use others for inspiration. We also have to turn inwards as there is huge inspiration within

  6. Liking Suzanne’s word: “Comparisonitis.” Like lots of gals out there, all too often I compare myself to other women and think I’m not thin enough, fit enough, young-looking enough! Your probing question of: “what don’t I like about…” is a good clarifying query to get to what I can focus on and change.

    1. Hi Kim,
wow Comparisonitis too:) Yes the question can help you make shifts quickly i find.
You can reframe all those I am not enough thing into positive statements that have you feeling i am enough and raise your vibes. Let me know if i can help

  7. Suzie – this really nice! I struggle with the “I’m not enough” syndrome. I find myself comparing myself to others all too often. I have been working at stopping that habit. It doesn’t serve any purpose and certainly doesn’t help me at all! I know I have value to offer just as me, as we all do. We just need to listen.

    1. Hi Carol
yes we have to sometimes develop habits that support you belief and feelings in being enough- spot on does not serve you yes get quiet and listen this will empower you

  8. This one (I’m not enough) can be sneaky and then polarizing! Comparing ourselves to others is such a crazy thing to do! We Ain’t Them!! But … yes I can catch myself there…. I don’t usually slip way down that wormhole as I am so much more aware of me today … I am able to *see* it and then talk it out. Going out in nature is a good one for me … and finally we have nice weather to do that! 😉
Thanks for sharing Suzie! Big Hugs!
    Ellie

    1. Yes Ellie comparing ourselves to others is crazy- but we do it and like you I have moved to a place where I can make the switch by changing what I am doing or thinking. Nature is such a gift we have and it is always there for us
      be love
      Suzie

  9. You are fabulous! What a great post. Thank you for being so honest and authentic. I go for walks when I start feeling less than. Nature always lifts me back up.

I’m a writer and it’s so true that when I let the words just flow, I always have the answers. They are there. Like you said: “all we have to do is get quiet, listen and trust.”

Glad we met via UBC. Cheers!

    1. Thank you Shelli and yes I am glad i met you too.
      Love your 21 day Challenge.
Yes it is wonderful when the words tumble onto the paper- that is where the poem for my book emergings came from
Yes nature is a powerful force in all ways

  10. Getting to the point where we realize that we are enough, is so important. Thanks for posting this 🙂

      1. I’m working on the main site right now. The blogs will probably be merged after the Ultimate Blog Challenge is over.
