“Creativity opens the door to the healing pathway”~ Suzie Cheel

On Monday afternoon I decided to head from the bed to my studio and paint through the pain I was feeling in my back and ribs. I had a white piece of paper on the table and was drawn to the watercolour crayons. I noticed that I chose reds, oranges and yellows – the 3 lower chakra colors- BaseSacral and Solar. The strokes on the paper were firm and flowed from my hand varying from strong straight strokes to circular motions.  I felt like I was releasing both fear and anger.

“Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.” ~ Pablo Picasso

I then used water to wash over the crayon and felt a sense of peace as the colours blended together, the dynamics of the image above merging into a meditation. I then left the painting to dry.

The next day I returned to look at the painting and was drawn to put red, yellow and white paint onto the painting tray. I began with the red in a dabbing motion of dots- a bit like the stabbing pains I have been experiencing I then joined the dots into a solid line you can see to the right of the painting, I  mixed the yellow and red and began again with dabbing motions creating layers until the whole area was covered. I introduced white and then changed the style of brush I was using to create the textured overlay and the short lines you might see. This relates closely to my body right now as I have welts and rashes on my abdomen and some itchy moles- source of irritation and area for forgiveness- that provide another layer of healing that is taking place for me right now.

After I had finished the painting and was taking a photo of it I was drawn to turn the painting upright or vertical. This gave me a sense of completion and I can now see the curved red line at the top as being my spine when it is out of alignment and as I move down the the painting the red lines become straighter. I was told recently that healing does take place from the top down, from the inside out and in reverse order of how the symptoms appeared, seems like my subconscious may have transposed this to the painting.

I have realised that as I have written this- laptop on the legs in bed- that writing and painting will be the way to heal my body faster and that I was lost in time as I wrote this. So I will be back on a regular basis to share more of my journey to wellness.
